Lake Como

Lake Como is pure cinematic charm—where dramatic mountains meet still, glimmering water, and every village feels like a postcard. Whether you arrive by boat or winding road, there's a sense of calm and understated glamour that’s instantly transportive. We spent just a few days here, but the views, villas, and long, lingering meals are the kind that stay with you.

Dream

Grand Hotel Tremezzo is on the western shore of Lake Como, Grand Hotel Tremezzo is an icon of Italian elegance—a lavish Art Nouveau palace that wraps you in old-world glamour the moment you arrive. Facing the historic town of Bellagio and nestled among lush gardens, it offers uninterrupted views of the lake and mountains, along with unmatched hospitality and timeless charm. The rooms at Grand Tremezzo are romantic and refined, many with balconies overlooking the water or the hotel’s manicured grounds. The floating pool set directly on the lake is a standout, as is the infinity pool hidden in the gardens behind. Sunsets from the lakefront terrace are particularly unforgettable.

For future visits, consider nearby Passalacqua, a newly restored villa offering an ultra-private retreat, or Mandarin Oriental Lago di Como for a more  modern but equally luxurious lakeside experience.

Dine

Dining at Grand Tremezzo is an experience unto itself, with options that range from relaxed to refined—all served with a generous side of lake views.

  • La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi: A tribute to one of Italy’s most renowned chefs. Formal, artful, and elevated, this is fine dining with the lake as your backdrop. Try the iconic saffron risotto or one of Marchesi’s signature deconstructed dishes. Jackets are encouraged; ties optional.

  • L’Escale Trattoria & Wine Bar: A warm and welcoming enoteca and trattoria tucked inside the hotel. Dishes are rooted in regional tradition but served with modern finesse. The wine list is extensive—ask for a recommendation and linger over a bottle.

  • T Pizza: A more casual lakeside spot on the hotel grounds, nestled within the gardens. Perfect for lunch after a swim or aperitivo hour with a view. Think Neapolitan-style pizzas, Italian salads, and spritzes in the sun.

Do

Just across the water from Tremezzo lies Bellagio, often called the pearl of Lake Como. Set at the tip of a narrow peninsula, this town blends elegance with old-world charm.

  • Wander the cobbled alleyways lined with artisan shops and cafés.

  • Stroll the waterfront promenade or find a quiet bench in Villa Melzi’s botanical gardens.

  • Visit a wine bar tucked into one of Bellagio’s side streets—this tiny village is full of hidden gems for wine lovers.

  • For lunch or aperitivo, choose a table with lake views and watch the ferries glide by.

The hotel can arrange a private boat transfer across the lake, turning even a simple excursion into something unforgettable.
