Venice, Italy

There’s nowhere quite like Venice. A city built on water, full of faded grandeur, quiet canals, and timeless beauty. We spent just a short time here, but even a few days in this dreamlike place is enough to leave a lasting impression. From hidden cicchetti bars to golden-hour gondola rides, Venice is every bit as magical as you imagine.

Dream

Aman Venice feels like a private palazzo from another era—quiet, opulent, and nestled along the Grand Canal in San Polo. It’s one of the most peaceful stays in Venice, with manicured gardens (a rarity here), museum-quality interiors, and service that feels as hushed as the surrounding canals. From here, the city unfolds with elegance and depth—best explored slowly, by foot and boat.

Dine

  • Ristorante Da Ivo: A Venice institution, tucked into a quiet canal-side corner near Piazza San Marco. It’s beloved by locals, visiting celebrities, and anyone who appreciates polished service and authentic Venetian classics.

  • Trattoria Do Forni: Located near the Basilica, this old-world trattoria has a romantic, wood-paneled dining room and a well-known kitchen specializing in lagoon seafood and classic risottos.

  • Ristorante Locanda Cipriani (on Torcello): A peaceful garden setting for a perfect lunch escape from the bustle of Venice. Dine under pergolas, sipping local wine and savoring traditional Venetian dishes like bigoli with duck ragù or grilled seafood.

  • Aman Venice: Whether it’s breakfast in the garden or dinner in one of the palazzo’s grand salons, dining at Aman is serene and artful. The menu balances Venetian ingredients with international technique, and the cocktails—especially in the Bar with its gilded ceilings—are a must before or after dinner.

Do

Venice is best discovered through a mix of iconic landmarks and quiet wanderings. Even if you’ve been before, the grandeur never fades.

  • St. Mark's Basilica: An absolute must. Byzantine architecture, glittering gold mosaics, and centuries of history. Book online (even day-of) and dress modestly—paper shawls are handed out if needed.

  • Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale): Home of the Venetian Doges, and once the seat of power, court, and prison. Book a Secret Itineraries Tour for access to hidden rooms and an immersive walk across the Bridge of Sighs into the stone prison cells below.

  • St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco): The city’s most famous gathering place. Come early in the morning or late at night when it’s less crowded.

  • Campanile di San Marco: Climb or take the elevator to the top for panoramic views across the lagoon.

  • Grand Canal: Best seen by water taxi at golden hour. Every bend reveals another postcard-perfect view.

  • Rialto Bridge: Iconic and busy. A lovely spot for early-morning photos before the crowds arrive.

  • Accademia Bridge: A quieter alternative to Rialto, with beautiful views and perfect for walking between neighborhoods.

Day trip

After breakfast in Aman’s private garden (a calm oasis among the city’s bustle), hire a private guide and water taxi to explore Venice’s outer islands:

  • Murano: Known for its glass-making since the 13th century (relocated due to fire risks in the city). With a guide, you’ll skip the touristy shops and gain access to closed-door studios—watch artists blow and shape glass into chandeliers, sculptures, and art pieces.

  • Burano: A colorful fishing and lace-making village. Legend says the candy-colored houses helped inebriated fishermen avoid walking into the wrong homes. It’s become a photographer’s dream. Stop for a casual seafood lunch here or wander with a gelato in hand.

Tips

  • Private water taxis are the most efficient and beautiful way to move through the city—especially early morning or sunset rides on the Grand Canal.

  • Walk the smaller canals and bridges to discover hidden courtyards, antique shops, and local wine bars.

  • Hire a guide (especially for historic sites and Murano/Burano) to unlock private access and deeper context. Venice is layered in history and rewards context.
